The ECU Education Commission launched the ECU School Chess Teacher Title scheme in 2017 to recognise educators with adequate knowledge and ability to teach chess for educational purposes in the classroom. The ECU101 – The SMART Method to Teach Chess training course and certification was developed following the Declaration by the European Parliament on 15th March 2012, that chess in schools should be encouraged for educational purposes.
By providing relevant and practical insights, the training course has supported schools, federations and more than two thousand individuals in their professional development and journey towards using chess as an effective educational tool to prepare children for life.
The course qualifies for Continuing Professional Development and its Certificate is recognised across Europe by virtue of being accredited by the European Chess Union.
