CiE Methodology and Prospects

By | June 1, 2024

We are happy to share the talks from the Chess in Education – Methodology and Prospects Conference from Armenia, organised by the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), the Chess Scientific Research Institute, and the Kasparov Chess Foundation on 18 May 2024.

Introduced in 2011, Armenia became the first country in the world to make chess a mandatory subject in primary schools. It reflects Armenia’s strong chess culture and commitment to educational innovation. The chess program is implemented nationwide, reaching tens of thousands of students over the age of 6 for second, third and fourth graders. Armenian authorities say teaching chess in school is about building character, not breeding chess champions.
